Perfect Your Room with Custom Drapes
The correct drapery can pull a whole room together and create a balanced flow. Everything about your drapes, including color, fabric, length, and texture, plays a factor. Drapes offer excellent light control and pair beautifully with blinds or shutters. Whether you’re adding drapery to a formal or casual room, there are some things you’ll need to consider.
Selecting an appropriate fabric is incredibly important. Each room in your home has unique needs that you need to be mindful of. For example, drapes hung in a kitchen will absorb cooking odors and may not be the best choice for that room. Choose a fabric heavy enough to entirely block light and fold properly. Drapery is crafted using heavy, stiff material to help the panels maintain their folds and elegant appearance.
The color you choose for drapes can make or break a room’s aesthetic, so don’t rush the process. Contrasting colors are an easy way to make a statement, while lighter, neutral hues offer a classic appeal. You should always have a color scheme in mind and avoid mixing too many colors or styles as this will cause a clashing, awkward look. Also, keep in mind that bright and dark colors will fade faster and more noticeably.
The length of your drapes is another crucial factor. Drapes that are too long or too short will look odd and out of place in your room. The general rule for hanging drapes is to place the hardware 6” above the window. Hanging your window coverings high and wider than the window frame will give the illusion of higher ceilings and a more spacious room.
